We know that the early years lay the foundation for a child’s development throughout the course of life.
That is why Success by 6®, as a United Way impact initiative, focuses on supporting preventative health and development programs for children 6 years of age or less and their families.
Success By 6® is dedicated to building the capacity of parents, caregivers and community to provide children with the emotional, social, cognitive and physical skills they need to learn and succeed for life.
Success by 6® Principles
Community Driven – We take the time to listen to the community
Inclusive – We respect the diversity in our communities, and seek to support all families.
Collaborative – We work together with community partners that are also dedicated to the well-being of children.
Sustainable - We build upon existing services, supports and initiatives, and identify where the gaps are.
Aboriginal Engagement – We ensure Aboriginal identified priorities are an integral part of Success by 6®.
In 2004 Success By 6® began through a provincial partnership among the Credit Unions of BC, United Ways and the BC Government’s Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Today, Success by 6® reaches into 385 communities throughout BC and continues to grow in capacity.
Locally, we have Succcess by 6® Community Coordinators serving Vernon, Armstrong, Lumby, Enderby, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Golden, Nakusp and North & South Shuswap as well as an Aboriginal Table representing the Okanagan and Shuswap First Nations. A Council of Partners with expertise from the public, private and volunteer sectors strategically plan and manage activities that Success By 6® invests in.
